DIESEL BEFORE

I haven’t had the most privileged of lives for being the stunning guy that I am. For the first two years of my life, I lived in the woods with a bunch of other homeless friends, scrounging for food at the back of a trailer park and having to search for clean water and sleeping outside no matter how cold or wet it was. One day these nice humans appeared and collected us all up ( some of us were pretty quick and gave them a run for their money but they did end up catching all of us) and brought us back to the shelter where I live now. I have lived in the same kennel for almost four years. When I first got here I stayed pretty much to myself, I was pretty afraid of  all of the humans that were around so I just stayed in the inside corner of my kennel to be safe. There were people that came to meet me and I heard them talking about me and how beautiful I was but they said they couldn’t take me home because they didn’t know what my personality was like because I wouldn’t come out to meet them. Over the years though I have become more comfortable and I even have a roommate who is my good buddy. I come and greet everyone now and everyone loves me. I love to be taken on walks and I really just get along with everyone including the other dogs and people and I am even good with the kitties. Unfortunately, I overheard some talk that my buddy (who has been here for as long as I have) is finally going to his forever home. I guess that means that I will be all by myself now. I wish they could take me too, but I guess I am too big for their apartment. I hear that a lot. I don’t feel that big. I am only about 75 pounds and I don’t need much room. I can be a couch potato or I can play in the yard with my stuffed animals. I don’t require much, I mostly just love to be petted and given attention. I wonder if I will stay here forever. I hope not. I will be waiting for the day when I hear someone say “please get Diesel ready, he’s coming home with us”.  If you want to meet me, please call Kathy(she calls me her favorite!) and she will arrange for you to meet me. Her number is 304-401-4693 or email her klcremer@aol.com. Hope to see someone soon.

Of course, no favorites allowed, but everyone was taken by this beautiful boy’s enormous chocolate brown eyes, big hugable face and his shimmery black coat. H e was 84 lbs of love. Loved everyone, including his little pal Moussie, who he lived with for 5 years, ever since they were both rescued from the woods. Diesel is another shy one, but he so obviously wanted to get over his shyness and find a family. He worked so hard at it and one week after Moussie was adopted, a second miracle occurred when a couple called to ask if they could meet Diesel. The dad told the volunteer that he had always wanted to have a big, black dog  that he could name “Diesel”, as he is a diesel mechanic. It was love at first sight for mom and dad and they wanted to take him home that very day. It was a tearful parting for us at the shelter. Right out of a hallmark movie! You should have seen us watching Diesel, in the middle seat of his new mom and dad’s truck, driving out of the gate, turning his big head around to watch us.  Since that day, Diesel hasn’t looked back. He has become quite comfortable and his mom and dad have told me that he loves his bacon on Sunday morning, even if it wasn’t meant for him. And he loves his tennis balls. He bounds into the living room ready for a game of fetch (which he hasn’t quite learned the rules for yet) with his tennis ball of unknown origin. We have been invited to visit Diesel in his new home and we aren’t sure that we can  stay away. We will take lots of pictures and give lots of kisses and continue to thank Diesel’s new family for giving a 6 year old shelter dog the gift of a new life in his forever home.
