I started volunteering at Pet Rescue in September ’07. The first time I saw Napoleon, I was a bit scared to go in his cage because he was such a big dog. Eventually, I entered and began getting to know him. It wasn’t long before Napoleon became my big red teddy bear. He was so full of love, all I had to do was give him a hug and he would melt into my arms. But, I couldn’t take him home right away. I had to clear two obstacles: my alpha female Nhopa and my husband. I managed to convince my husband to adopt Napoleon and had Edel [trainer] introduce Napoleon to our aggressive female. Everything went great, Napoleon was accepted into the pack. He makes me laugh with his goofy, clumsy, 110 lbs antics. My husband is also completely enamored by Big Red. Napoleon has a loving, gentle, funny, stubborn and regal nature. His vocabulary has increased greatly and he is very obedient. If he’s not playing with one of his toys, he is asking for love by pushing his head under our hands (for petting) or putting his back to one of us for a hug. Adopting Napoleon has added so much love to our family, we wish we would have rescued him sooner.” – Napoleon’s mom.
